check up etc

hey guys, i know i'm not around much. we are in the last week of building our home before you move in...need i say more LOL

ok couple questions. about 5 years ago diagnosed with tachycardia (no treatment because med had more side effects then condition) , then in april diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope (cardio inhibitory 2B) and had a PM placed in june.

I have been having what i thought was my PM going nuts and then just a couple week ago i had a very high rapid HB (my PM recorded as over 170) and i almost passed out. so i'm obviously seeing the tachycardia acting up.

when i went to see my EP and the pacer clinic i was given some print outs listing my diagnosis as Sick Sinus Syndrome. that is the first I have ever seen of that in connection with my condition. (computer print outs while at pacer clinic) my EP has now put me on a low dose Beta Blocker (started Sept 25th)
They turned my PM down to catch any time my heart goes above 150 instead of 170..also found out my heart like to stop beating during the night ?? My pacer obviously catches it so that's good ...
The Beta Blocker (Metoprolol 25 mg) is quite frankly wiping me out! My normal BP is 110/70 so I'm wondering what the heck it's doing to that ??

anyone else go through this or have experience and care to share??
THANKS~

obviously my problems are all electrical, but PM was put in before i started taking any meds.

problem seems to me to be the fact that my heart can't seem to regulate itself....YAY ME~ LOL

Heart Problems & Medicines

I always think of situations like yours as danged if you do and danged if you don't. We are given medicine to slow down the electrical impulses generated by the heart's natural pacemaker and then they give us a manmade pacemaker to do what the medicine is preventing the heart's natural pacemaker from doing. Now I'm not being critical. I know from experience that this treatment is better than having A-tach and all of the problems that can go with it.

At my last my count there were 17 different beta blockers on the market. Some of these other, than the Metoprolol, are used for the purpose you are taking if. And some of beta blockers are more tolerable than others. So it is possible your doctor may want you to try another. My Dr gave up after I had tried 8 of the 17, including Metoprolol, all with the same results. I was finally put on a calcium channel blocker to help me. But it is not much help, to tell you the truth, except I have not had any heart beats in of the 150 to 200 range.

I guess to sum this up, I can say I don't have any answers for you, but I have been there, done that and know it ain't fun.

Good luck,

Smitty
