Outcome of EP Appointment Today

Hi. Thank you so much for all your support, prayers & encouragement regarding my EP appointment today. I saw my EP. He checked my ECG then arranged for an urgent exercise/treadmill test to be done while I was there. Normally you would wait weeks but it was done urgently within an hour. Very impressed. It showed my arrhythmia is still there, although suppressed to a degree with the Ivabradine, but not completely.

From the results he has decided to do another EP study & possibly an ablation if he can map the arrhythmia. I had an EP study in January but they couldn't set the arrhythmia off. They told me this does happen. Anyway, they hope to manage it this time. He did talk about a sinus node modification but it depends on the results of the EP study, so I won't know until he does the EP study. He did discuss the pacemaker risk. There was so much information to take in that I came out of the appointment with my head all over the place! Even though I work in a hospital myself (30 years now), it is so different when I am the patient. I can't take it all in. My husband came with me but he doesn't understand medical terms so he was "lost".

My EP said he hopes to do the study within 3-4 weeks (with possible ablation). I am waiting for the date.

I just wanted to let you know how I got on. I think I'm still going to try & find out as much as I can about the ablation & pacemakers. I really appreciate all the help & information people on here have given me already. You are all great. You are so supportive & it is very useful to be able to get in touch with other people who are going through/ been through these procedures etc. Dr's can tell you so much, but it's great to speak to other arrhythmia sufferers. THANK YOU!

Best wishes
Janey

Dear Janey,

So glad you had a good appointment. It sounds like your cardiologist really knows his stuff, and it's great you got some tests straight away. Isn't it good when the NHS works like it should!

Will be praying your appointment arrives, and also that the arrhythmia behaves itself. Let us know how you get on.

Best Wishes,
Genie

Ablation and Pacemaker

by scadnama - 2010-06-16 03:06:59

Hello! I have had 5 ablations since my pacemaker was implanted 2.5 years ago. I've never had any issues with it during procedures. The doctor has to take extra precautions because of the leads, but otherwise, it's very safe. A pacemaker rep is there during the procedure to keep your pacemaker in check and make sure that it is functioning normally afterwards. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Good luc with the procedure!

Take care,

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
