10 days to go....!!

Hi everyone. To continue my story from my previous posts,it is now only 10 days to go until my EP study & sinus node modification ablation procedure, which carries a pacemaker risk....& now I'm starting to panic!!!

Can anyone tell me if, when they do the modification, if they then decide I need a pacemaker as they have ablated too much ( the EP said it can be difficult to ablate exactly the right amount), would they put the pacemaker in straight away or would I have to go home & then be re-admitted at a later date for it? I'm a bit confused. I assummed they would do it all in one go but now I'm not sure. Does anyone know? I live in the UK.

I guess it is normal to now be getting anxious about the whole procedure etc! I am going to the hospital on July 23rd for all the pre-op tests etc & I can ask any questions then. My procedure is on July 27th. It was weeks away & now it is just days!!! I think I will be getting more anxious/panicky the nearer the day gets!! It's all very scary!!

I love this site SO much as you are all SO supportive. I'm SO glad I found you a few months ago! I love the fact you make us newbies feel so welcome & help us out with all your experiences. Plus you are there when we are feeling down or scared etc. Thank you all SO much!

Best wishes
Janey

that depends

It's completely normal what you're feeling. But don't worry too much about it. You'll see that it'll soon be over and will be for the best.

Regarding the insertion of the pacemaker, that depends on the outcome of the procedure. In my case, when I had my sinus node modification, I ended up with junctional rhythm but the doctor decided to wait a few days to see what happened. She suggested putting a temporal pacemaker if necessary and keep me for observation. At the end, it wasn't necessary because my heart rate normalized. A few months later I developed arrhythmias again and they decided to do a complete sinus node ablation, so I had my pacemaker implanted before the procedure (even though it wasn't pacing at the time). So, I guess that if you end up having a really low rate and it carries risk to your life, they will put the pacer instantly. If not, they might want to wait a few days or weeks to see how it goes.

I wish you the best! Take care and let me know if I can be of any help!
