Holter Monitor

Good Morning Everyone,
A question: I have a PM and ablation (since June 2010) my Cardiologist just switched my Metoprolo to Sotolol, trying to get my A-fib more under control, and for some reason wants me to wear a 24H monitor (scheduled for December). Wouldn't a PM inquiry give the same information as a Holter monitor?? Just wondering...

Thank you so much for your responses. Now I understand the reasoning behind the monitor and feel better about it.

Sotolol

Hello JAE - sorry I can't help with the technicalities of PM versus Holter, but I can tell you I was switched from Flecainide, which was almost as good as nothing so far as controlling my A.Fib went, to Sotolol in May of last year. It's been a terrific improvement and without the ghastly side-effects of the Flecainide which, as Smitty might say, is the work of the Devil! I take 80mgs of Sotolol twice daily - morning and evening. I hope it works as well for you too. Kind Wishes. Sheila

I hope sotolol works better for you than it did me. I took it for 3 months and was sick as a dog for 3 months, lost about 40 pounds as I just did not eat. Finally switched me to Tikosyn, been working good for 5 years.

A pm records your pacing and anything it catches as in incident. The holter will give a lot more information because it records every beat, paced or not.

Holter vs Pacemaker

As Tracey said a Holter records everything, including low heart rate which a pacemaker will not do. It will get the high rate but not the low rates, which I expect wil be very important in your case..

You know you're wired when...

Your electric tooth brush interferes with your device.

Yesterday I moved to a new place in my mind and realized how bad I felt 'before' and the difference my pacemaker has made.
