Having a heart cath on Friday

Hi everyone, Those big episodes of A-fib are hopefully going to be a thing of the past when I have a heart cath on Friday. I'm not freaking out really, because so many of you were so kind to share your experiences, and it's supposed to be a pretty straight-forward procedure. I am just in wonder about how someone who doesn't smoke or drink, who eats a vegetable-based diet, exercises and has been on Lipitor for over 5 years, can need a pacemaker and then a heart cath for suspected blockage(s). I'll let you know how things turn out and what we found out. I'm blowing a kiss to all of my "pacer" friends on this website! God bless you all.

I have A-fib and my electrical system was damaged about 16 yrs. ago and only last year did I have the pacemaker for blockage. My blockage was not from plaque as in arteries but the nodes and electrical system were not pushing the blood through the heart and I guess that was my blockages. The pacer makes the system work. I have zero placque in any of my arteries at age 61 because I do take care of myself.
On Oct. 23rd my husband did have a minor heart attack and now has 2 stents in one artery and 1 stent in another - the rest will be taken care of by meds and diet. He went back to work on Monday Oct 29th and seems back to normal. He was a clogged mess. We don't eat the same things.

The heart cath is performed to see where the blockage is.

I've had 2 heart cath's back in the early 80's. Technology has come a long way since then and I suspect the procedure has become even easier.

Meema, I know exactly what you mean. I remember being in shock when the cardio doc said I needed a heart cath because he was 90% sure I had blockages. Even my family was surprised. Then finding out my heart needed some extra "help" with a pacer was more icing on that cake. It took me a while to digest everything but now I look at it differently. I figure between the doctors and my little "helper" I'm very lucky because I'm alive and intend on enjoying life for a long time.
