Liquid stitches

Hi i'm a new PM recipient as of last week and I'm so glad to have found this group and the great discussions on this site. I was curious to know if anyone has ever had their incision closed with liquid stitches before? My incision seems to be healing ok with it, but I'm getting some spotting or seeping that I notice by the end of the day. I guess I'm trying to understand what's normal and how long before this stuff comes off.

As long as it isn't too severe I would give it another week and then contact the doctor if it hasn't healed over. For that matter if it concerns you give him a call sooner. Thats what he gets paid for.

I had a pocket revision done on May 2nd. I have to say I liked the liquid stuff better then sutures. However, after about a week the incision looked like it was getting pussy, gross and a funny color. I had very little leakage but some. (I wore a big bandage to bed so I would not leak on the sheets) I finally drove to my primary care doctor and had them look at it because I was certain it was infected or something was terribly wrong. ALL WAS OK… If you feel something is not right…ask… if anything else it calms your concerns.

With my first PM I had sutures and they left me with a keloid scar. With my replacement liquid was used and my scar is flat. My cardiologist had to go in a different way to put my PM in so I have both scars and I can really see a difference. My scars intersect.

The liquid sutures will soon look like you had a bad sunburn, and it will peel off little by little. On the 17th day it all came off for me… the other thing I liked a lot was I was able to shower right away!!!! yeah for that…..

Thank you all - so far the PM incision looks pretty flat except for the actual lump from the device. My last proceedure I had a mitro valve ring put in and it left a nasty scar with a kiloid that doesn't seem to flatten even with the steroid cream - sounds like the liquid stitch is much better.

I didn't have any of the problems you mention. The liquid sutures or "glue" will peel off a little at a time, starting in the outside corner. Mine took over 4 weeks to peel off. I had internal stitches but never saw them. I had a tiny little "snag" of a stitch that peered out of the corner and it kept snagging on things (big aggravation) and it too finally disappeared. My scar is amazing (in a good way). It is disappearing nicely and isn't even as noticeable as the "lump" or shape of the implant. If it were leaking/seeping, I think I would at least call the doctor's office and ask if I needed to come in as I'm a worrier and this would freak me out a little.
