Hi Gene,

I've taken Lipitor and Plavix. I took Lipitor for about 10 or 12 years before the Dr switched me to Vytorin. I have had blood work done once or twice a year, the last time in June, and there has been absolutely no change in my kidney or liver function. I'm sure some people have had problems with Lipitor or it would not have these listed as side effects, but so far as I know it is a slow process. I think if a person has blood work periodically, they could expect to see if it was doing damage to your kidneys or liver before it got out of hand.

As for the Plavix, I'm one of those that cannot take that it. Tried it twice. A few weeks after I started it the first time I had a mini-stroke. The Dr stopped the Plavix at once. There was no proof it caused the stroke but since it has the potential to do that it was stopped.

A couple of years later after getting a stent implanted I told the Dr I should not take Plavix but he is one of those that doesn't believe hell is hot so he insisted that I take Plavix. About 48 hours after starting it my legs and feet looked as if I had measles and the itching was unbelievable. Of course I had to go to the Dr (a different one) and again the Plavix was stopped and I was given steroids to get rid of the rash. Needless to say Plavix is on my list of medicines that I will not take any more.

I had sextuplet bypass and mitral valve work done in June and was implanted with a medtronic ICD.... Zero % pacing or usage. I am on one med, thats a diuretic, lasix, once per day.....I was prescribed lipitor alos, but I dont take it, I finally got off of all of the meds that are consistent with CABG surgery and I never plan on taking any of them again, if I can help it... there are no free lunches with these meds, they always take something else from you for what you get
