Dislodging of a lead

Hi: Just became a member to see if any of you could help me with a concern I have. Received Pacer 2/26/10. Now I see and can feel a pointy thing near my incision site and just above the actual device. Is it possible that the lead has popped out from it's place in my device? Has anybody heard of this or had this happen to them? My fear is another surgery to correct this if that is what happened but before I tell my parents I wanted to get your opinion out there in the Pacer World. Help please !!!

A stitch?

Best advise: Call your Dr! They love easy questions.

Could be a stitch, used under the skin by your dr. to close the incision site. I was told they dissolve.

However, The way I understand PM's is that the leads are attached to the titanium casing and it seems to me that it would be unlkely that they would pop out at the incision sight.

Good Luck.

1st of all...talk to your parents! That's what they are there for!
My guess, which is all that it is, a guess...would be that what you are feeling is the top of your leads. I have a pointy place above my pacemaker, too (which went in 2/23/10) ...where the hard plastic part of the leads ends & the little wires begin. I am a thin woman, & you can see the leads up to my collar bone.
It is very difficult, once they are healed, to tear a lead loose. Talk to your parents. They will help you understand all that is going on with you!
Good luck,
Jessi

No problem

Unless it is painful there shouldn't be any problem. the pacemaker is an irregular shaped object and the place where the leads connect protrudes. Being thin makes everything more obvious. Give your body a while longer to adapt and it may not be as noticeable.

Leads

I agree with talking to your parents. I had the same fears when I got my first pm I was younger also and could feel something above the pm. What I learned after looking at my x-ray the next time you get a chest one ask to see it. It may ease your mind some.
Anyways the leads are very long and sometime too long for a smaller person so the leads get wrapped in a circle shape around the pm itself. I am thinking that you are feeling a little spot of the lead. If you had pulled the lead out you would know. (I have done this also).
If this is not hurting you its not something to worry about. I do recommend telling your parents and getting a Dr visit to just ease your mind and know for sure that it is nothing.
Good luck take care of yourself. Keep us posted on what choices you make.

Mine protrudes and I can feel a pointy type thing above the device. Please, please, tell your parents. Right now, you and your parents need to work as a team, along with your doctor. I know I would want my son or daughter to talk to me and include me in the process. I'm the Mom, but my daughters want (and need) to know what's going on with my device. It helps to be included. I also had a stitch that was sticking out and was very annoying. It kept getting caught on any clothing. Once I told the doctor, they were able to easily (no surgery) take care of it in the office. The folks on here are great to answer questions but you also need your parents and the doctor to know and answer your questions.

You know you're wired when...

You have a T-shirt that reads “Wired4Sound”.
