Chronic cough

Members...I am at my wits end...and would appreciate any and all information you can give me. Has anyone, after having a pacemaker implanted, developed a chronic cough????  I have had this hacking cough for well over a month. Have tried the honey and vinegar, honey with tea; none of that helps. My primary care doctor thinks it may be Lisinopril (my blood pressure medicine) causing it. So, as of tomorrow, he is weaning me off the Lisinopril and starting another medicine. Hopefully, that will put an end to it.

Thank you in advance

Problems

I had the chronic cough and every side effect they had listed. I also had a problem with my BP dropping so low I felt like I had someone sitting on my chest. They took me off of it and within 4 days everythng disappeared. My P is staying around 132/72. I feel 100% better. They are just going to monitor me for awhile to see if I even need BP med.

Hi Jabezz , I am not a Dr. but I am a pharmacy tech and I know this drug is good for that and that is why most drs take their patients off of it my sister in law had a terrible time until she went off it.

Same problem!

I am having the same problem. Since they started me on the Lisinopril I have had the same cough! It's terrible! I know that it is one of the side effects of that med. I have an appointment with my doctor on February 14th and I'm sure he will change what I am taking. I hate to have it changed because I think it is doing the trick and I'm feeling really good, but I can't keep coughing like I am.

Interesting

I have been on Lisinopril for several years, also have an ongoing cough (irritated throat). It's more of an annoyance than anything else. Interesting to see that others have had similar experiences.

Lisinopril & Cough

by SMITTY - 2011-01-27 10:01:58

Hello Jabezz,

Lisinopril is one of a class of medicines known as ACE inhibitors. ACE inhibitors are well known for causing a dry hacking cough and this is one of their side effects listed in the literature. I had to put the all ACE inhibitors on my "no-take" list because no that.

ACE inhibitors are good BP medicines but they all carry this risk, and some are worse than others. So you may want to check and see if whatever the Dr replaces it with is also an ACE inhibitor so you will know what can happen.
