Noises in my chest

Hi, I am new to this forum and hope someone can give me the benefit of their experience.
I have had my pacemaker about 9 weeks and right after I got it, I started noticing squeeking sounds in my chest when i breath. If I hold my breath, it stops. My primary doctor gave a lung xray when I told him. It was fine.
Now the squeek has changed into a growl sound and sometimes it gets loud enough to keep me awake at night. I don't notice when I'm upright, only when I am lying down. Has anyone else had a similiar happening?
I see my cardioligist in about a month.

Hi and Welcome
I have had mine since March and didn't experience anything like that. This is a great group and someone will have some insight into these noises. It will probably settle down and go away but I would keep at the Doctors about it till you get an answer. Good luck and keep us posted.

Noises

Hello Gardengal,

Welcome to the Pacemaker Club.

I’m of the opinion that our pacemaker should be as quiet as the heart function it helps. We never hear our heart’s natural pacemaker so we should never hear our manmade pacemaker.

The fact that you can stop, or suppress the noise holding your breath makes me think what you are hearing is not from the pacemaker itself.
However, that is not to say the pacemaker settings or the location of the leads are not causing some muscle movement and that is causing the noise. When you hold your breath, if you are like me, you take a deep breath and that causes your chest to expand which could explain why the noise stops. To prove or disprove this idea try exhaling and holding your breath for a few seconds and see what happens to the noise.

If the problem continues and the cardiologist is no help, you may want to consider seeing a pulmonologist. They know best what should or should not be moiling the chest.

Good luck,

Smitty
