marked memory loss

First off, I would like to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to electric frank, I had my pacer put in on july 11, 2008, had alot of unusual complications that the physican and st jude folks said could not be caused by the pacer, and that i must have had these problems prior to being paced. After a solid five monthes of agony I found this amazingly helpful website. Frank took the time to ask pertinent questions and give insightful answers to my delimmas and kept me from quite literally removing the pacemaker from my chest myself. Thank you. Now fast forward 2 years-I have been doing pretty well for the most part, work on our farm(very hard labor I might add) and go,go,go, all the time. My problem is that I have noticed a marked decrease in short to mid term memory. I am finishing my degree in nursing(RN) and have timelined my issue to when my heart stopped and I was revived just before my pacer. I know this may seem crazy but I know my mind and body pretty well and can tell the change. Still have the reflux comes and goes(nexium). Have high B/P 186/110 being controlled by tecturnaHCT fairly well and alerts for tachycardia due to be checked this month. Are there any updates for the pacer? Thanks again everyone, keep up the kindness!

Memory loss

Hi,
Glad to have you back. Thanks for the feedback. I often wonder if my ideas are helpful.

Your tracing the memory problems to your cardiac arrest is likely right on. A loss of blood flow to the brain is really very much like a stroke in that some of the brain cells can be damaged. Another thought: have you fallen or banged your head anywhere around the same time? That can also do cause memory problems.

I have had similar memory problems most of my life. It may not seem like it from my posts, but I do OK once I access the material. I've also learned to rethink ideas rather than remember them. Actually, it is helpful at times. Makes for new and creative approaches to things.

best,

frank

I also noticed problems with memory after having my heart stop, and also EEG abnormality over an area linked to memory. So, I don't think it seems crazy! For me, it seems to have improved a lot over the 2 1/2 years since the incident.
