Tiredness

Hello, I have recently had my pacemaker put on 9.9.10 and I would like to communicate with anyone about their experiences. I still feel very tired, is this normal? I am 84. I would liket to travel to New Zealand in February is this too soon?

sure, make plans for new zealand. just give yourself extra time at the passenger check area. you will be patted down instead of going through the xray machine. it's no big deal, but you have to put your bag through while you wait for agent to check you. keep an eye on the carry-on bag or have a friend grab it for you once through the check point.
you may feel tired, but that's normal, i'd say, for someone 84. i think a little exercise would help your energy level rise.

I don't think it's unusual to still feel tired: it's only a couple of weeks since your pacemaker was implanted, and it took me (at age 42!) a while to feel I'd eliminated all the anaesthetic and stuff from my system. Equally, when it's first implanted, the technicians will usually set it up to factory default settings - when you go for your next appointment, don't be surprised if your doctor makes a few adjustments to the settings. Mine had to be 'tweaked' several times until it was right for me and my level of activity.
So far as travel is concerned, I'd say go for it - my PM was implanted as an emergency, and I had a vacation trip booked for two weeks afterwards. My Dr. gave me the all-clear to go, and I've never looked back.
You should receive an ID card from your pacemaker manufacturer, to show at the security area of the airport, so they know not to send you through the metal detector. As the previous poster said, be prepared for a pat down, but it's pretty straightforward, especially if they know you have a pacemaker. Feel free to ask again, closer to your travel dates - and feel free to ask questions at any time. We've all asked them at some time!

Sorry, nothing helps!

Hi, I am 87 and have been feeling exhausted since even before my pacemaker, done in 2008. No one has any answers for me; except that I am old! I was seeing a hematologist who said as soon as I entered his office that "he doesn't do tired!"
So I guess most elderly women are tired! I used to walk and exercise for energy but have not been motivated enough to it anymore..
Yesterday I drove my husband to visit a niece's ill husband. Then I drove us to meet our older daughter to see an exhibit, so we were on our feet for several hours. Although my husband found a chair here and there to rest. We walked to our parking place but my husband had to stop and I drove back to get him. We slept late today and he is fine, but I still am exhausted! I got very little done today and will have trouble making dinner! I hate to be discouraging but I guess I want to tell you you are not alone! Not that it will help!
