mammograms & Pacemakers

Hi, I have just found this page & it’s good to read some of your comments.
I was interested in reading about the women with pacemakers having mammograms. I told my technician that I had a pacemaker and it made not a scrap of difference. My mammogram took TWO hours and hurt like you could never believe. I left in tears. I was sore for 10 days after and when I phoned them to ask them about it they just said it was normal. I am a little (Actually a lot) stressed now because I have to go for my two yearly squish tomorrow and am not looking forward to it at all

I cannot imagine what would take 2 hours. I have had to have mammograms since I was 30 and even with pacemaker they never took over 10 to 15 min and they really squish me down because of my family carries a cancer gene. I would want to know why.

Mammograms

Hi.

Welcome to the club, glad you found us:)

I am SO sorry to hear about your mammogram experience.

I've had a yearly mammogram ever since having my pacemaker (since Nov/2004) and sure it is uncomfortable (and a tiny tiny bit painful for about 3 seconds) but I've never heard of a mammogram taking 2 hrs...what the heck were they doing to you?????

Perhaps it was the technician???

I've had one snippy experience once when I told the tech that I had a pacemaker and she gave me a nasty comment...but every other tech was very nice about it.

I guess the best you can do is when you get there tomorrow, tell them what you went through last time and ask if there is any way they could be a little (a lot) easier on you.

Good luck and keep us posted.
