new pm

Hi

I was diagnosed with sick sinus syndrome. I had my pm implant three weeks ago and would like to know if the pm makes a difference immediately? As I still get shortness of breath. 27 yrs old.

I also had my pm placed 3 weeks ago and still get short of breath easy. Some days I feel like I have more energy than I have in years and some days I feel tired. I think it is all normal. I am 39. Over all I feel MUCH better than I did before the pm. When do you see your Cardiologist?

next time you have your pm checked (this should be soon) tell them about the shortness of breath & they might need to adjust the pm

3 weeks in....

Hi.

It must feel like forever but give yourself a bit more time. You've just had surgery and everything has to heal - even though your scar may look like it's almost completely healed (or not) - underneath has a lot of mending yet to be done.

Also when we first get our pacemakers the doctors usually leave the pacemaker at it's default settings, then when you go in for your 1st "interrogation" they should ask you how you are feeling, etc. and then by what you tell them they can adjust the settings for your particular needs. Sometimes it takes many attempts to get the settings correct. I think of mine as a piano, and sometimes it takes a good tech to get me "fine tuned".

Sometimes people feel an immediate improvement, with other it takes time.

Just make sure you are very frank, open and honest with your doctors when you describe how you have felt since implant day.....the answer may be in the Rate Response...ask if yours is on or off. Actually, any question you think of...write it down and take it with you.

At first it can be very overwhelming, but the more you learn about your heart and your pacemaker, the better you will feel.

Take care,
Pookie

Settings

Hi, there...I also had shortness of breath for a long time after PM implantation. It actually took over a year to get my settings to the point where I feel almost okay! Be patient and always talk to your doctor when you aren't feeling yourself. It took a lot of tweaking and setting changes to finally get it all right - everyone is different! Believe me...patience!!! Good luck!

Thank you
