The medicine Coreg

I was wondering if any of you are on Coreg or the generic form, Carvedilol? When I went in for a PM check a little over a week ago they increased my Coreg and every day I've been having vision problems. I have aura in my eyes that lasts about 15 min. at a time, about 3 times a day. I am thinking it's from the Coreg, but I'm not sure. Anyone else have this and did it eventually go away?

Thanks for all your help, Cathy.

Carvedilol

I am on 25mg twice a day.I think this drug is the kind you have to slowly work your way up to the recomended dose or slowly wean yourself off.
When i first started taking Carvedilol when it kicked in my arms would get very heavy feeling and i would get very dizzy but as my system slowly got used to it it dosent seem as bad.I can still tell when it kicks in after been on it for 3 yrs.
I havent read about a aura around eyes as a side effect yet (maybe you came up with a new one to add to list of the many side effects)
You should ask your Dr bout this and if he doesnt think its coming from meds maybe its time for a eye Dr visit.Good luck

coreg

I have been on coreg since the day I got my defib/pm implanted 2 1/2 yrs ago. First it was 25mg 1x/day now its twice a day. Maybe its too much too soon as Red suggested. I did notice the same side effects but I was also on about ten different medications at that time so I couldnt really differentiate what drug was giving me which side effect but yes it did eventually go away. The best advice is talk with your Dr. because everyone is different..Good luck..Your in my thoughts and prayers=)

visual aura

I've been on coreg at least 6 months. Have also had visual aura since last March. All of the time. Have been to the eye doctor several times, and each time he says he thought it would have gone away by now. Did a lot of research on my various meds. Could be almost any one of them, but I rather thought it was the digoxin. There are meds one could take to try and get rid of it, but their side effects are potentially worse than the visual aura. Most of the time I hardly notice the aura. My sister the neurologist says the brain learns to ignore noxious stimuli.

Coreg & The Eyes

by J.B. - 2010-11-21 11:11:43

Coreg is a beta blocker and one function of this medicine, as it treats the heart, is to lower blood pressure. This includes lowering the blood pressure in the eyes which can cause changes in vision.

The following is from an article on the Internet.

"The human body is an organic unit. Its tissues and organs are interrelated and mutually dependent. Therefore, the health of the eyes, the optical organs of the body, can influence, and can be influenced by, any and all of the other organs in the body. Because we live in this state of interrelation, when medications are taken for other conditions they often have visual side effects as well."
