Shoulder pain

Hi
I have had my PM now for 13 weeks and have been back to my
cardiologist 3 times, and each time complained about shoulder pain, each time they said the PM was fine. I had no pain before the PM was put in.
This week I went to my Doctor who sent me for an x ray and ultrasound, they said I have a torn tendon in my shoulder. Could this be from the PM procedure?

Regards Roy

It makes me wonder...

I too, after receiving my pacemaker, started to develop aches & pains in my left shoulder. At first, as usual, one doctor (the jerk that put it in) tried to say it was "frozen shoulder" but I could move it, etc. I sought 3 more opinions and it was NOT frozen shoulder.

As the years went on, 5 to be exact, the pain was now constant - I finally got an ultrasound & CT scan of my shoulder back in January and low & behold - 50% torn rotator cuff.

So, to answer your question...I really don't know the answer but it sure would be some heck of a coincidence that after having received my pacer, this starts to develop. I often wonder if I fell off the operating table a few times....lol....and they didn't tell me.

I just know that after the torn rotator was discovered, I was sent to therapy and learned exercises I can do from home to prevent surgery. As my "tear" isn't really a "tear" but rather it's like all frayed like the bottom of your jeans at the hem. So, if my exercises don't build up enough muscle to support the tendons/ligaments, I will have to go for a surgery called Acromioplasty.

I think I'll keep up with the exercises:)

It's amazing to me, that for some of us, after having our pacers (or defibs), that all of a sudden we start to develop other medical issues and problems.

Take care of that shoulder!!!!!!

In April, my father in law had a pace maker installed on his right side. Since then, although slowly, he has had severe pain in his shoulder/arm and has lost total use of his right arm. My husband and I are convienced that it relates to the pace maker procedure. He has been to an orthopedic doctor and a nuerologist but they say nothing can be done.... This is outgraous to us! Any ideas?

Shoulder pain 3 months later

by csd01008 - 2010-12-02 08:12:45

I started developing shoulder pain just a month ago which is about 4 months after getting my CRT-D, and finally got in to see an orthopedic doctor yesterday and have been diagnosed with frozen shoulder. It has gotten progressively worse over the last month not only with the pain but in the movements I can make. I go see the specialist that put the device in next week. Trying to get appointments for doctors and test are always delayed.

I was told that the frozen shoulder can occur from "trauma" to the shoulder area and usually the symptoms come on several months after the trauma. If it had been caught immediately, it's possible a shot of cortison would have stopped it from developing. Because that didn't happen, now I'm looking at months of therapy or other treatment.
