Implanted November 12, 2010

Hi All, just had my ICD implanted at Cedar-Sinai on Friday. I had a lot of anxiety about the procedure but it was pretty easy. They wheeled me in to the room, gave me some kind of medication, and I was out like a light. I woke up gently, a little loopy, and I was finished. They then took me to the cardiac ward where I stayed over night. I was given Norco for the pain, but thus far it hasn't been too extreme.
I was visited the following day by a technician and my doctor. The tech made some adjustments. I was amazed by the technology.
I presently am at home and waiting to return to work. Not too much pain at all, but really try to take it easy on myself.
Please be encouraged that if you are having an ICD implant, that it isn't too rough of a procedure to get through.

So glad to hear your surgery went well.

Hope you stick around as a member to help support the "newbies" as everyone always has a lot of questions before their surgery.

Isn't technology awesome!

Take care,
Pookie

Procedure is a Piece of Cake

This procedure is far easier than you would think. The worst part of the recovery is remembering not to stretch and reach with that left arm and not to raise it above your head. I didn't even have to take a tylenol afterwards. Take comfort in knowing the procedure is quick and pain-free. My hair wasn't styled very nice during the first few weeks, (raising the arm thing), but that's about my biggest complaint on the procedure.

Good Info

Glad to hear about how well your procedure went. I will be getting a pacemaker/defibulator implant come early January and hope I have the same success as you. I just joined this site today and have found some real good information on this site so far.
Keep feeling better..
Gary
