Sensitive

When I got paced and they interrogated me on the operating table I felt like they were electricuting me. I mean it was really bad. I was shaking like a fish out of water. The doctor and rep said they couldn’t believe I was feeling it. I have had it for 3 weeks tomorrow and I can still feel it when it paces me. Sometimes I wonder if this is the big one. I have afib and I still feel my heart race and when it does I can really feel it. When I went in for my 2 week check up the rep said she turned it down a little. It helped but I can still feel it. I guess what I am wondering is if anybody else is this sensitive?

Sorry to hear that you can feel your pacemaker pace you. I don't think it is meant to be that way. With that being said, I've read many many posts here that have said the same thing - that their doctors have told them they are just "sensitive" and to be honest with you, and this is just my opinion - I don't know if that is 100% true or the doctor just doesn't have an answer.

You said the rep turned it down a bit and it helped, is there any way they could turn it down a bit more???

Also, it is a patient's right to get a 2nd opinion. It wouldn't hurt and your primary doctor should not get offended, but some will.

I wish you all the best...keep trying to find the answer as I really don't think you should feel when you are being paced.

Again, this is just my opinion.

Take care,
Pookie

I have two leads...the atrial lead I don't feel when pacing. But the ventricle I feel whenever it paces. Luckily it only paces 2% of the time. I believe it's the way they have it implanted. I've told my EP I can feel it and he doesn't say much about it. It's annoying because it's always a reminder but I do my best to live with it.

Take care,
Linda

When my ventricle lead is pacing I feel pressure where my lower throat where my chest. It's like a lump that is uncomfortable but not painful. I notice it during the day, but especially at night. It slightly affects my breathing when I'm trying to sleep, and makes it difficult to sleep. I notice, too, that I now need to belch from time to time during the day, and that seems to be related. My doctor has tried to find a setting that works for me but six months after the implantation I feel like little progress has been made.

I have had my PM for 4 weeks now. I could feel it immediately after surgery. Mine is placed under the muscle. I have a 2 lead system but my problem is mostly with the ventricle. Sometimes it really bothers me to feel it because it seems really strong and it makes me worry. I mentioned that I could feel it right after surgery but there wasn't real concern about it. I really hope they can "turn it down" somehow so I won't feel every little thing. My doctor said I was just feeling the self-tests but I think I also feel pacing because it is too often to be self tests. Has anyone else had their's turned down?

I have now had my pacemaker since the 28th of Oct. I can still feel it when it paces me and I keep telling myself it will be OK. Mine is set to run the test about 2:am and when it does I sometimes wake up and think that this is the big one then I remember its set to test at that time. Last night I was getting pretty tired and I could feel it pacing me and it had been going off and on all day off so I checked my heart rate at rest sitting in my chair and it was 100. I think it was running a little wild. They got me on beta blockers and blood pressure medicine and on 11/23 late in the evening I was real tired and I checked my rate and it was 64 my blood pressure was 91 over 56. I don't think I was born with that low of a blood pressure. Oh well, I guess I just got to suck it up and keep on going. Thanks for all your comments at least I am not the only one that can feel it pounding.

No Wonder I'm Sensitive

I had my pacemaker implanted on 10/28/10 and it has been shocking me real bad ever since. I am happy (kind of) to say they have finally figured out the problem. The doctor perpertrated my heart with the lead through the apex in my right ventricle 2.5mm. I am now waitng for a lead removal and repair of my heart. Because the lead has been in place for 5 months that makes it a little more risky. Not only do they have to worry about bleeding out the hole but also bleeding and tearing on the heart wall where the lead has attached. I just want everybody to know that if you are really feeling your pacemaker pacing that isn't normal. Don't let them tell you it gets better with time or your just more sensitive.

You know you're wired when...

You have a $50,000 chest.
