Fainting can be caused by anything from dehydration, too low blood pressure, not eating, low blood sugar, etc. However when you went to Dr did they check out your pacemaker to be sure it's working 100%? If not get it checked out to be sure it's all ok. Good luck Eve.

Have you asked or has it ever been suggested that you wear a Holter Monitor so that when you faint, the doctors can see exactly what the heck was going on with your heart at the time of the fainting event?

That is where I would start.

If you have already had a Holter Monitor, (and this is just a wild guess) perhaps you should be referred to a Neurologist and/or an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist as your fainting could possibly be from another cause, meaning not your heart.

I wish you the best of luck.

Eve, I'm certainly no expert, and at 54 years old I'm not in school much anymore. I received my pacemaker about 10 days ago and one of my symptoms was blacking out.

In my case, I wore a Holter for just one day, discovered my heart rate tips into the low 30''s at night (like many on tthis forum) so I was a candidate for a PM. Now pacing at 70 BPM, 24/7.

HOWEVER...I still am subject to blacking out, and maybe our situations are similar. I was also diagnosed with "orthostatic condition" (BP drops when I stand up suddenly) and also with "vasovagal" condition. The Mayo clinic web site has good info on this condition...you may find some parallels there to your conditon.

Bottom line..while you may have a very legitimate reason for needing a PM, there could be other, complicating issues that cause the fainting. In my case, adding the PM was necessary...but it was not a cure-all for every possible condition I'm dealing with. You may be in the same boat.

Good luck!!!

I am just thankful that I am alive and that even though I have this pacemaker it is not the end of the world.
