Depression and heart problems

A number of people have expressed classic symptoms of depression on this board, either directly or indirectly. Read the FAQ section. There is a blurb about "depression" and "anxiety"; they both go hand in hand with having heart problems. All of us "oldies" on this site should make a point of stressing these facts to the newbies! Us "oldies" know, if we're honest with ourselves; we are stepping stones for all the newbies.

I fought acknowledging that I suffered from these problems because of pride, anger, and denial. My family and loved ones suffered as much if not more than myself. It's a given: heart problems -----> anxiety, depression or both. Is this a wonder when you consider we are dealing with FEAR, PAIN, often ANGER and DENIAL, all the DRUGS AND THEIR SIDE EFFECTS, SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION because of any of the above things individually or in combinations and IT EFFECTS BOTH MALES AND FEMALES, SLEEP DISORDERS for the same reasons and HOW MANY OTHER PROBLEMS? Come on folks, this is a hard place to be! We are in a hard place. But we're not alone because everyone who belongs to or will belong to this site are dealing with the same things either themselves or a family member.

Meds and Depression

Aside from "heart disease" causing depression, the very drugs that one may need for their heart problems can cause either depression or such a low quality of life, that anyone would get depressed.

Beta blockers are real "downers", they're side effects aren't going to enhance your life either.

I gained a lot of weight, was always very tired, felt like I was spending life walking in wet concrete.
Horrid headaches were also a big part of my life.

At least I'm off most of the meds now.....still waiting to see long-term if some weight disappears! lol

When I was pregnant, I was quite worried about the safety of being on the drug. When I called the company doc to check out their research, they stated that their animal studies didn't show any problems but that could NOT be extrapolated to people! I was asked to phone back after her birth to let them know....ie I was their guinea pig. As they said, most people on beta blockers weren't of childbearing age.

So, there's depression d/t anxiety and depression d/t the very drugs you may need. Sucks big time but you have to adjust and accept that it's the "new you".

Beats the alternative!!

I agree, I also suffer with depression, so much so I now take medication for it. I wasn't sure whether I should take the medication as first because I thought it might make the heart thing worse. Does anyone know if Prozac make the heart beat slower or faster, my Dr feels that it is OK to take it but I would be interested in your view?

I have them both. I get so tired of having them too. But I do acknowledge it does go hand in hand with my heart disease. The meds I take work pretty well for me.
To smudge: I havent noticed my heart beating irregularly at all on the Prozac.

I had depression and anxiety before my PM. Since my PM, I lost the job that I was most passionate about, and also had 4 other major life changes in the past year that have been difficult to regroup and move on from. I had wondered really how many people had depression/anxiety on this website, because when I joined earlier this year it seemed like people weren't acknowledging such problems.

Thank you Joy1 for getting us to "step up to the plate" so to speak and acknowledge the impact of PM's.
