Soccer

Hello All~

I recently had my pacemaker installed and should have exercise clearance on Feb 11th. I am looking to go back and play pick up soccer like I was playing before I got my pacemaker installed. Can any of you think of anything protective I can do for that area on my chest were the device is?

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you all.
Chris

Hi chiatt,

This ad appears on the lower right of my PMClub page (below the forum listings): Paceguard http://www.paceguard.com/Home.html

I know nothing about it, but it is a sport guard for PM's with a shirt to hold the guard in place. Maybe others here know more.

under armor

I played soccer and softball in college. I got my pacemaker three years ago (I am 22) and started to play soccer ASAP. I went to my athletic trainer to make something the would protect the area. They had some sort of hard plastic and some other cusioning that had tape on one side. I bet you could go to michael's craft or some crafts store for these items. I placed that into a thin sock and cut it to fit. Then I had sewn it into an under armor shirt (any tight shirt would do). Just make sure you get it in the right placing before sewing it. Put it on first and trace it onto your shirt. GOOD LUCK AND HOPE THIS WAS HELPFUL!

Thanks

Thank you both for your comments. I will look into your suggestion jomera. I think that is a bit cheaper than the other suggestion Amy but I do appreciate both.

EVO SHIELD

Chris
I currently use a protective compression shirt from EvoShield for when I play hockey. Take a look at the website attached.

I looked at quite a few sites for the protective shirt that would fit entirely over my pacemaker site. I picked the one used for hunting since it would cover more area. I have worn this shirt while playing for 3 months with no issues.

Best wishes to you on the field.

Rich

Just bought the Paceguard...

I'm 42 and had the PM put in a week ago... I bought the Paceguard today in FULL anticipation of getting back on the pitch. I'm a keeper, so as soon as I try this baby out (July 1st), I'll post again... the hardest part of this whole thing is this frickin' wait!!!

Keeper too

Soccerplayer, I'm super interested to hear how the paceguard works for you in goal. I'm a keeper as well as I'm nervous to go back in goal for fear of taking a shot in the chest and affecting the pacer. I play mostly indoor, and indoor coed so those guys kick the ball hard from close distances (prior to surgery I've definitely taken a few shots in the chest). Also, I'm nervous about diving to the left and landing on it. Please keep me posted as to how the paceguard works because I was thinking of getting it when I get cleared to play (I'm 32 and I will be allowed to play again by the end of July).

Thanks,

Kate

Paceguard update...

This little air hockey puck is GREAT!!! The only negative to this product is the velco in the shirt, there isn't enough of it in the shirt (my opinion) to hold the guard. I brought the shirt into a seamstress and had another piece sewn in... no problems now!! I highly recommend this product. It covers the PM body perfectly and you can hardly see it under your jersey (just in case image means anything!!) I've been hit by players and have had a couple of hard shots bounce off it, and have had no problems diving to the sides. You can feel it when you hit the ground to cover the ball though. The first game I was a little hesitant to commit... I do have a PM afterall... but after the first body check I WAS FRICKIN' IN!!! The only thing you will have to get use to is the rubber "teeth" digging into you a little. It's worth the money... the shirts fit like underarmour gear, so order accordingly (I'm going to buy another couple of shirts). The Company is very customer oriented, their courier "misplaced" my order but Paceguard was totally on it and made sure I knew what was happening. I've told our Heart Clinic about it as well... Kate... we have a winner!!!

The pacer systems are really very reliable. The main problem is the incompetent programming of them. If yours is working well for you, get on with life and enjoy it. You probably are more at risk of problems with a valve job than the pacer.
