sleepless

Hi all,

Another sleepless night. My thoughts are like "a hamster in a cage" going round and round. I try to meditate, pray, count sheep, etc. but sleep will not come. Anybody out there has any suggestions how to get to sleep???   I don’t like medications, anything natural?

Also, has anyone had more tests done (either angiogram, echocardiogram, etc.) when different problems arise?  I wonder sometimes if it is my heart itself that is "sick".  I really believed my life would improve after this PM but so far not really. Reading your posts I feel hope and know I am not alone.

thanks

Definitely have trouble sleeping and thinking too much.
I find that listening to my favorite music in a dark room works well for me. More tests may be approriate and as with everything the sqeaky wheel gets the grease so speak up if you don't feel better. Don't waste time worrying about things you can't change and delve into your favorite hobbies and activities. One day at a time.

ZZZZZZZ

I have an interesting way of dozing off at night. In the winter I turn on my electric blanket an hour in advance to assure a nice warm bed.

When I decide it's time I snuggle in and lay on my back and let go of my muscles. For the busy mind problem I make no attempt to stop thoughts from running around. Neither do I hang on to them. It's more like just watching my brain "play". Next thing I know it's morning (or time for a bathroom visit).

My theory is that this is a time for my brain to process the days activities without trying to solve them. It's kind of like defragmenting the hard drive on my computer.

Oh, one last thing. If I'm still awake after an hour I get up and have a cup of caffeinated green tea. Check in on this site and answer some questions. Then back to bed.

By the way I also like the music approach. Just be sure to pick music that isn't activating. It is also a good idea to use the same music each night for at least a month. Our brain tends to pay attention to new or novel things.

how about that!

Insomnia

by Blue - 2011-01-11 01:01:40

When I got my pm in 04 I just never slept. Eventually the rate was lowered to 55bpm and I seemed to be able to sleep. I have always been an active person and can get hyped up easily especially if a lot of gardening is done.

I never never drink tea or coffee after 3pm. it is deadly and btw forget the chocolate after 3pm too. Needless to say I read a lot. If anyone has any tips on how to get to sleep please let us sleepless pm pals know. there is nothing so desperate as the feeling of wanting a good night's sleep.

very good advice frank

You are not alone

When my PM was inserted two years ago, I thought my insomnia was over. But, I continue to have sleepless nights. I survive by running 1 hour every morning before going to work. My only worry now is the long term effect of lack of sleep will have on my life in the future. Any comment from you guys will give me more hope

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
