Swollen calf muscles

Has anyone with an ICD had swollen calf muscles? It is only the calf muscle that swells during the day - not fluid, no pain and no skin discolour is visible. I have quite skinny legs but during the day they become about 3/4 inch bigger. I mentioned it to the doctor at the hospital and he didn't seem worried but there must be a reason for it.

I thought it was fluid but it's not apparently. The doctor said that if you have fluid and press on the swollen area you finger will leave an indent. I wonder if it's the tablets I take?? I take Ramapril, SImvastatin, Bisoprolol and Amarodrone, plus an Aprin a day. Hope your stomach is okay now.

watch out for that amioderone....google it up. I got off of it after 2 weeks. Bad stuff.

I have it too. I have a pacemaker however and it all started a few months after receiving it. My doctor calls it Edema. I also have very low blood pressure and apparently the blood in my body likes to "pool" in my feet and legs. I was told (while at the Mayo clinic) to eat more salt and to wear compression stalkings.

You really should discuss this a bit further with your doctor or sometimes a pharmacist is a good source of information when it comes to medications and their side effects.

I was also put on the drug Skyking mentioned and I'd rather have my eye torn out than EVER go on that drug again.....it was absolutely horrible, but some people can tolerate it quite well.

I just re-read your post....if I were you - I'd be getting a 2nd opinion just for peace of mind.

Good luck,
Pookie

Thanks for replies - I will check again with GP as I have appointment in 2 weeks time. It does sound is if I could have Edema. My muscles could have been swollen for months but I didn't notice! I too have low blood pressure. I didn't take any medication until I had my ICD fitted and started all the tablets at the same time so I don't know how they affect me individually. I used to feel a bit whoozy around lunch time at first and I think that it was the Bisoprolol. I have a liver test done regularly and whatever they count to see if all is okay, mine is raised but not dangerously so.I think that the test is done to check if Statins affect the liver.

So glad I found this website - I have never met anyone with an ICD so it is good to share thoughts.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
