Hi Everyone
I have a question,I have had my pacemaker since 2005 . i have had a infection in my left breast since 2006 it has been needle aspirated sevral times over the years i have had biopsys numerous times and on antibiotics several times until recently the infection got so bad i ended up in the emergency room at which time thy called in a surgeon and within a couple of hours i was in the operating room having this very large abcess drained spent 3 days in th hosp on IV antibiotics, hopring this would be th end of it,Well guess what it was not after the wound healed from the inside out once again i have a infction back ,So back to the Dr i go this time he desides he can do the surgery again but in his office(BIG MISTAKE) he says its gonna be a bigger surgry than the first one (what luck) anyway i take coumadin which i stopped for 1 day and go into have the surgery which took over a hour he said he removed the intire abcess capsule and any thing that looked infected this time he packed it with silver nitrate and sends me home .1 hour later i am bleeding severly had to call the ambulance and almost bled to death before they could get me back into surgery to stop the bleeding needless to say i was in icu for 3 days now after all this you would think this infection would be gone i had nurse come out everyday for about 5 weeks to pack the wound and bandage it, it finally healed in about 7 weeks and low and behold the INFECTION is back again,
The Dr no idea what is causing these infections i asked him if it could have anything to do with my Pacmaker and all i get is i have no idea now i am looking at more surgery more antibiotics and what ever else can happen.. so i need any help possible PLease could it be from the pacemaker??????
Thanks Valerie

When you get an infection involving the pace maker pocket, usually the first thing the docs want to do is remove the PM and leads to prevent endocarditis. I had 3 mild infections with no pus (really more like inflammation) and they removed my PM each time. Luckily I am not PM dependent, and hope you aren't.
I really would consult another doc. I did, and he said I was better off with bradycardia than another infection.
Best of luck to you,

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

No advice whatsoever, but my heart goes out to you. How awful! Is it time to get a new doctor? At least get a second opinion.
If you do a search for infection (upper right side of the screen in the gray bar) you can find some other experiences with people who got infections and how they dealt with it.
