Bruising after surgery

My Mom (85 yrs. young) just had surgery last Thursday. Today, I noticed she has bruising on her chest, the left side where the pacer was implanted. Her incision looks great. Should I be concerned with this bruising or is it normal? Thanks for your help.

I too had a little bruising in the area of my incision but it lasted just a few days. I'm sure It was caused by the pushing to get the PM in place.

Thanks for your reply. The brusing is on the side and underneath her left breast. I thought it may be from compression during the surgery.

Normal

The pacemaker implant requires they make a pocket to place it in. This can result in some internal bleeding and can lead to bruising while the blood is being absorbed. Unless the area become inflamed or she develops a fever all is normal.

a blood thinner or aspirin? Even tho I was off the blood thinner for 4 days seems like I bruised after surgery esp after my knee replacements. As always its best to ask the Dr or his staff to relieve your mind esp if it is spreading.

Hope this helps,

Janet
