pacemakers and arrhythmia

Pacemakers are life savers, but--at least for those who have not had their Atrial node removed and suffered from SSS they can cause arrhythmias. They don't often do but in my experience all too often. That doesn't mean they stop working, but they contribute to arrhythmias that were there before or bring on new ones. I don't know if this is true for those of us who had our nodes ablated and are pacemaker dependent. Harvard Heart Letter had an excellent article on this a few years back. I keep the letters and I'll look for it.

Somewhere I read on Medtronic's site that initially after a pacer implant, a patient will suffer from Atrial Fibrillations and as the heart becomes less sensitive to the pacer, the AF's settle down.

I'm sure some of our members on here can explain it better. I've also read on here that some of the PVC's are actually our heart trying to beat on it's own but Pacer thinks it should also beat, therefore, we get two beats close together.

Would love to hear from Frank on this......
