over sensing

Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about having pacemaker box replaced on 23rd Feb. Since then I have continued to have dizzy spells.  Went to see the cardiologist yesterday, who said cannot see anything wrong with my heart on tracing. Had pacemaker checked again with technicians. They are now saying that my pacemaker is over sensing.  Looks like I have got atrial tachycardia, but they say that this is false, because the pacemaker is picking up something, it thinks is a beat, but is not.  They said I was the second person that day to have this problem. I have an Altrua 50 pacemaker fitted. Apparently I have small P waves so they can only adjust so much. Felt fine until this morning then dizziness again for 30 minutes.
Can anyone advise please?

thanks
Shelee

Mine was timing

I had my PM fitted two weeks ago, but apart from the occasional missed beat it only got to run multiple beats on Monday. I got dizzy and thought I was going to pass out again. The technician found that my problem was the timing between the two pulses. By default it is set to 150ms. For me to be OK I needed it set to 200ms. He said it was unusual for this to be a problem.

Thanks Sue,
I have now seen three different technicians. They are trying by making small adjustments. Nobody has checked my ears, but no pain or loss of balance etc.

You're welcome

You don't need pain or loss of balance to have an inner ear problem. Sometimes there is fluid in there or little crystals that cause the dizziness. Glad you're having your pacer checked out too since that could be the problem as John has said. Sometimes it takes a few "tweeks" (adjustments) before they get it right since everyone is different. Good luck...Sue

If you're the second person with this problem why aren't they working on solving it....or are they. What was their solution? I hope it wasn't telling you to live with it. Maybe a second opinion from another electrophysiologist or tech? Or could it be your inner ear? Many on here have had dizziness and found out they had an inner ear problem that an ENT doctor solved for them when they thought it was their pacer. Good luck.....Sue

fixed the sensing

Hi,
I returned to the clinic today and they have said that the adjustments have stopped the over sensing. However I did have a spell lasting half an hour yesterday. They have now fitted a 24hr tape. Lets see what that shows, but typical nothing since it has been fitted.
