Persistant Cough

My dad just had a pacer implant early March ~ he is now home but is up every night coughing for up to 2 hrs and cannot fall back asleep unless he sits up in his chair... I was wondering if we should get him an adjustable bed??

He has lowered his sodium intake as well as fluids over the past 2 weeks.. we were hoping this would resolve the water retention but it's not quite working..

if he is on lisinopril, that made me cough all the time. otherwise it is most likely fluid in his lungs. I usually take an extra lasix when i start filling up with fluid.

to his doctor. The coughing could be from medications, but you didn't mention what, if anything, he is taking. Or it could be a number of things....but it sure is a sign that something is not quite right.

When in doubt....get checked out (by a doctor).

Like the post above stated - it could possibly be fluid in the lungs, or it could even be Pericarditis...you won't know until he has at least a chest Xray.

He should not have to sit up to sleep!!!!!!

Please get him in to see his doctor as soon as possible.

Take care,
Pookie

go back!

I agree with the others, go back, he needs to be seen again. Getting a pm does not cause a cough unless he picked up a cold or something in the hospital so something else is going on. Is the water retention new since the pm?? Because that's not normal either.

I am just now 40 but have had these blackouts all my life. I am thrilled with the pacer and would do it all over again.
