getting used to this

I just got a pacemaker put in 3-7-11. I'm 58 and the doc said it was from a birth defect. I had been failing for about 3 yrs from the time I can remember first passing out. I told my family practice doc but they never figured it out. They said the passing out is called syncope. My heart rate was 31 when I went to the ER and about 20 when I got to surgery. My bff who was there said she saw the monitor go to 10. I don't know how I am even alive. It's uncomfortable, and still burns and itches, and it's hard to find a good way to sleep. Otherwise, I guess it is all ok, and a lot better than the alternative.

Most of what you're feeling now will go away as you heal! I have to disagree with Mike. While some people have long term discomfort, most of us get back to sleeping in whatever position we like within a few weeks and the itching, etc goes away as the pocket heals and builds up scar tissue. Welcome to the PM world Kristell.
Although it never goes away completely the PM and itching and finding comfortable positions eventually fade into the background as you get used to things. Best wishes.

Still have discomfort

I had a PM fitted 5 months back. I have discomfort in the chest area, which the Dr's can't explain. I still can't sleep properly, having to use sleeping tabs, when needed. I get discomfort in the shoulder, area of the PM, having to find a different poisition to sleep. I can't wait untill I get to the stage that I don't feel any discomfort, and can live the life I led before the operation. It will take time, but I'll get there, and so will you. Good luck.
