weight lifting and 16 year old with Pacer

Thanks for input.

His original leads (Boston Scientific) were put in at age 4. Medtronic pacer was changed at age 11.
Cardiologist says to avoid movement that rubs lead against clavicle. Curious as to other's experiences and advice.

I have had a pacer for a little over a year now and my cardiologist has always said that after about the 1st 5 weeks I can do everything I used to do. I still work out, swim, and all other activities and I've never had a lead pull loose or anything. Although of course I still worry about it in the back of my mind as I'm sure everyone else with one does too. The way I see it is if your son has had a pm simce 4 and he is 16 now...then I'm sure it would have pulled out already by now if it was going to. And if it does come loose or fracture then in reality there's probably nothing you can do to prevent it. It will just happen. I know that the older the leads get the more likely the chances are of a fractured lead becomes. But that's why we get it checked every 3 months. And as far as it rubbing against his clavicle, I've never actually heard of that before. Looks like to me the pacer should be a little lower if it could rub on a bone. I would be a little concerned if I could constantly rub my leds against one of my bones. But I honestly would worry about it too much. I have fallen on my chest, lifted weights, vigerously excersized, been accidently punched in my pm site while goofing around, and all sorts of crazyness this past year and I just got my usual 3 month checkup and my pm is still going strong and has 8.5 years left on the battery. I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
