I am currently awaiting pacemaker implantation and I just found out I am pregnant. Does anyone know if it will still be possible for me to have the pacemaker or will I have to wait until after delivery?

The PA/EP at the hospital flat out told me that if I was to get pregnant from the time we talked to the scheduled day of ablation they WOULD reschedule.
I was told the same for pacemaker when I talked to them causually the next day when I got my pacemaker.
I am sure all doctor's are different but I certainly wouldn't want this kind of surgery while pregnant.
not to mention the recovery has been hard enough on me without pregnancy hormones!

We've had members here who developed problems and needed a pm while pregnant. They (and their babies) turned out fine. I don't know first hand because I already had my pm the first time I got pregnant, but I know I freaked when I found out I was pg again and might need a new battery before delivery. My dr didn't even blink, just calmly said if we had to replace it, then we'd replace it.
Surprised

I'm surprised the doctors did not stress to you about safe sex and not getting pregnant in between waiting for your surgery. Shame on them.
From what I was told they will not do the surgery on you if you are pregnant. They made me take a pregnancy test prior to surgery to confirm this.
Looks like you will need to reschedule.

Your ob and cardiologist need to have a conversation. They can do surgery when you are pregnant, they just prefer not to. It's going to depend on how badly you need it and why.
When I got pregnant the last time, it looked like my battery might not last until after delivery. I was a little freaked but my dr said it could be done if we had to. I'm pm dependent, so letting it go was not an option.
Kirs, it's not that they can't do it, it's that they need to know if you are pregnant. They would not necessarily cancel, but they would treat you very differently.
