porsche boxster magnetic field and icd

I am to get a new icd today. I asked about my mid engine porsche boxster (2002) and magnetic fields from engine creating issues for the icd . Doctor did not think a car would give problems but I do not think he understood the boxster engine is directly behind the driver and passenger. does anyone know if this is a problem - I have only had the car a few months and hope to be able to drive it or at least ride in it after the surgery.

background if interested...(I have a new ( 4 month) bovine valve placed in my atrium before the aorta, to replace a bicuspid valve with severe stenosis. follow surgery I had cardiac arrest with chest compressions on the newly chest wound. my cardio re-hab seemed to be going well - problems with stairs where after climbing stairs and walking about 50 ft. I got bad palpitations and lost breath. A week ago I was admitted to hospital ER for extreme pain in solar plexus area. no cause was found. Saturday I had three rapid problems while walking ending in my passing out suddenly and hitting the pavement with my face causing stitches in eye brow and multiple bruises. In hospital for tests, had V fib induced and was shocked out of it (ouch) told i might want an icd to avoid death from v fib.)

Well I can tell you this, the engine will be no problem to you, If I am correct the boxter has the same H motor in it as some subaru's. I have been around those type of motors, and work on muscle car's and more in my spare time, I have not had a problem. I do have an ICD and pacer. I do try to stay back while the car is running. I tend to walk away fro the car if the the engine is being reved.

All in all you should have no trouble but I don't think you will be able to drive with the V-fib for 6 months after you have had it. I have not really driven for 9 months so far.

PSSS I have beat a few of those boxters on the street haha. good luck

running engines

The normal recommendation is that you don't work on/lean over a running engine, but driving the car should be fine. As long as the running engine is at least 12 inches from the device in your chest it wont cause a problem.

Good luck with the ICD implant, I'm sure it'll be fine.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
