can anyone help. please.

hi, just found this site, im mum to ella 12, who has had a pacemaker for almost 8 years. she suffers with reflex anoxic seizures [a form of arrhythmia or a cousin of ] but luckily she has reached a point where the pace maker is no longer needed. in august we find out exactly when both lead and device will be removed permenantly. understandably both my daughter and i are very nervous about this. So would be very greatfull if anyone could give us any information about this.

Pacemaker and Lead Removal

Pacemaker removal is reasonably simple. An incision is made where the pacemaker is located. The surgeon disconnects the leads from the pacemaker and then removes the pacemaker. The surgery recovery is about the same as having pacemaker implanted.

Pacemaker lead removal, also known as extraction, is more complicated and can be performed in several different ways. Given the length of time the leads have been place, your doctor may elect standard extraction, laser assisted extraction, or no extraction at all.

For more details on lead extraction go to this site: http://my.clevelandclinic.org/heart/services/tests/procedures/leadextract.aspx

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
