martial art

I have just had PM fitted a week ago. After being diagnosed with complete Heart Block. Can anyone tell me know if I can continue training in full contact martial arts if I can find protection for the PM site. How long before I can start training again and what I should avoid. thank you very much.

not sure about martial arts!

Certainly not for at least 6 weeks, let the leads bed in. It probably depends upon where your pm is sited as to whether martial arts is a good idea. Mine is really close to my skin by my collar bone, and the leads can be seen through the skin, so I wouldnt do anything like that. I do gym, weights, swimming and dancing. Ask docs.

ask your doctor

You should ask your doctor. Mine told me not to play baseball, hunting, basketball, and any other activity that can by accident hit me around the pacemaker area. I am sure your doctor will restrict the practice with a second person.

As you have been told... check with your doc

Full contact might be tough but check with your doc. My pacer has survived me getting hit by a car cycling where I broke a leg, some ribs (on my right, not left side), separated one shoulder and bruised the other as well as some hemotomas that were pretty colorful to say the least.

Your doc is your best source of info. But remember this, some docs need to be talked into things. Be ready to make your case and negotiate. Too many docs are used to the just say no routine rather than understanding it is your life, your body and really in the long run your choice

Just be ready to make a wise choice and not one that goes against your own best interest.

There is a product out on the market specifically for pacemaker protection. It's called Paceguard. It has been used for sports or other daily activities, Their website is www.paceguard.com. I know people who have used this and have had great results. Good luck.

Life does not stop with a pacemaker, even though it caught me off guard.
