Warm sensation around device

Hi everyone,

I am a 27 year old female with Long Qt Syndrome. I had an ICD implanted in 2005.

In the past several days I have felt a warm sensation around my ICD. At first it would come and go but today it has been quite persistent. It seems to be internal, my skin does not feel warm to the touch. The best way I can describe it is: it is as if the device itself is heating up. It's a very strange sensation that I have not had in the 6 years that I have had the device and I have never experienced in my life.

Just wondering if this is normal. Being the weekend I would hate to call my Dr. or go to the hospital over something that I don't necessarily need to worry about and can wait until Monday.

Thanks
Patti

call

Not normal. Better to call over something that turns out to be nothing than wait when something isn't right. It's just a phone call, they can make the decision to wait until tomorrow or see you today.

call a nurse

Do you have one of those dial-a-nurse services with your insurance? If so, I would call one up.

I'm too new to pacers to be able to answer your question, but having hung out with electricians would worry about any electrical device heating up -- especially if it were in my body and I couldn't unplug it.

What was the outcome of your problem? My ICD is also feeling as if it hot a stinging in one small area, but last week I did have the felling that all the ICD was hot. II have an appointment on Wednesday to have the wiring checked and to see a ICD nurse. Hazel

I signed up for this group to see if anyone else was having this specific problem. I spoke with my Cardiologist and my Electro-physiologist, and they said that there was no reason it would heat up on me. A year later, I find an article about problems with my specific model (Teligen E110).
