LVH

hi all, and God Bless.
One question, i think. when my PM was replaced a month ago an echo test was done before surgery. a diag. of LVH was found.
the doc is now talking a new or different pm. they are watching me closely.
ok, so, just what kind pm are they discussing?
i feel great now. why change something " if it ain't broke"?
thanks, phunny

Hi Phunny,

The following is part of what Mayo Clinic has to say about left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH).

"LVH is enlargement of the muscle tissue that makes up the wall of your heart's left ventricle.

Left ventricular hypertrophy develops in response to some factor, such as high blood pressure, that requires the left ventricle to work harder. As the workload increases, the walls of the chamber grow thicker, lose elasticity and eventually may fail to pump with as much force as a healthy heart.

The incidence of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) increases with age and is more common in people who have high blood pressure or other heart problems."

Based on this and what you say my guess (it is nothing but a guess) is the type pacemaker the Dr is talking about is a three lead, or biventricular, pacemaker. The third lead on the bivent unit goes to the left ventricle to increase its blood pumping capability.

Of course you need to talk to the Dr to know for sure.

Good luck,

Smitty
