Jaw pain

Hi, I received a PM on July 5, 2011 at age 62. I have been experiencing pain along my right jawbone and teeth since the implant. Is this normal? & Will it go away eventually?
Additionally, my husband and & will be driving from the west coast to the east coast in less than two weeks. Do I need to worry about blood clots, etc.? Any input would be helpful. I see the PM doc on Wednesday & the CardioMD the following week. Thanking you in advance.

There are some great people here...hope they have some input, my pacemaker is 4 weeks old...it seems we all have different experiences.

It's unlikely it has anything to do with the pm. It's possible they manipulated you and did something during the surgery. I'd check with your internist or possibly dentist. You have nothing to worry about traveling! Just keep your id card with you in case of emergency. Do you have a medic alert? I'm extra diligent about wearing mine when I travel. I've never needed it in almost 20yrs, knock on wood, but I wear it faithfully.

just a guess...

could it be that now you are clenching or grinding your teeth while you sleep?

as far as travelling goes, just make sure you take breaks and get out of the car and walk around for about 5 minutes.

I watch Dr. Oz......he says that if your cardiologists and/or family doctor say it's OK, then before long trips in a car or in an airplane = take an aspirin to thin the blood. But please check with your doctor first before taking any over the counter meds.

Make sure you raise these questions when you see your PM doc and your cardio doc.

Take care and happy travels.

Thanks to all for your input/suggestions and also so quickly. I will definitely discuss all this with my Cardiologist. Will let you know how all works out.

Hugs,
Rita

Position during surgery

I would bet that they left you in some position that put pressure on your jaw during surgery. Once you are out you are just a slab of meat on the table who can't complain.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
