Warbling sound

I've had my Medtronic pacer/defibrillator for 61/2 years. Lately, at 10:42 AM I hear what sounds like emergency vehicle sirens in Europe. The sound lasts for 30 seconds, then stops.

I called my doc and can't get in for another 3 weeks. An e-mail to Medtronic has gone unanswered.

Any suggestions, advice, etc. is welcome.

Have you checked your PM card

as there should be an 800# on it to call & ID for your PM too. I recently called my PM company (Boston Scientific/Guidant) & got right thru to a patient rep & got the answer I wanted. This may be a low battery warning altho don't be too scared even if it is as the rep can tell you also how long you have to replace it. I was in Elective Replacement & wanted to clarify how long I had to do it. I had 90 days. Hope that helps,

you cant get in to see your doctor for 3 weeks, Im glad I dont have a cardio dotor like that. Like Janet said there is a number on the medtronic card you got when it was installed, call that number. Hope you get answers, not sure what the warbling sound could be.

Call Your Doctor and tell them it can't wait

Sounds like you are hearing an alert tone from your device. Might be urgent. Tell them you don't want to wait and don't feel safe waiting.
The company will tell you to call the doctor to have the device checked ASAP.
I have a device and have heard what you describe. Not always urgent but could be.
Call you doctor again. If you have a home monitor they could have you do a check that way too.

Most likely a low battery warning

Hi Bob,

That sounds like a low-battery warning alert. Your device must have most likely reached the ERI period , ie the Elective Replacement Indicator for your battery. It is recommended that you schedule an appointment for a battery replacement if that is the case. Usually the battery can last upto 3 months since the alert. However, the sooner you get it replaced, the better.

Hi Bob It definately sounds like low battery.Mine went off everyday at 8:50 am. I just went through the same thing and had the battery replaced 2 weeks ago. It will last 3 months after the warning starts to go off. I asked the doctor what would happen if it stopped working. He said since I am not dependant on it I would just start to get tired and have low energy. Of course he didn't want me to wait til it stopped. Hope all goes well with you!Take care,
