Struggling

As a new pacemaker recipient who is still struggling to get my breath back, I am curious to know what kinds of exercise are not recommended.

Me Too

I too am a new pacemaker recipient. Tried to walk around the park today (really big art & craft show) and just couldn't do it. At one point I had to sit down then after a little more walking felt a little dizzy. I'm hoping that all of the above will change as my body becomes used to the PM. Good luck to you.

Be patient and get it adjusted

I had the same problem when I got mine at first. It does take some getting used to, since your heart probably went a long time without being coordinated. The doctor I had put me on a treadmill, and made some adjustements while I was exercising that made a huge difference. He saw things that he didn't see on earlier tests. Good luck, and hang in there!

Type of exercise

A pacemaker itself doesn't limit what you can do as far as exercise. However, you could have some other cardio condition that would limit you. I suggest getting in touch with your doc and ask about it. Don't be put off with some quick and dirty comment that things will get better. Ask what your diagnosis is and what specifically to expect.

If you haven't had a programming session yet, ask for one very soon. There is no excuse for being put off for more than a couple of weeks. I called and got one in a week after implant and it made a lot of difference.

I have had my pacer since 2005. At first it ruled my life. It took some time to calm down and make the mental adjustment. I had trouble sleeping and I worried a lot about pulling wires. Now I just live my life as I wish.
