New PM Host

Hello All,

Received my PM Nov 1 2011. Overall I'm feeling pretty good except for not the fact that I cannot sleep on my back. Any suggestions? Also, when will I be able to return to some light running?

Glad to hear you are doing good ~ we love to hear Gratitudes, along with our questions/comments.

I am a natural side sleeper and can't sleep on my back. I assume you are having PM trouble when sleeping on your back?

I had my ablation/PM on 11/2009 and for the first few wks. (maybe 4-6 wks) I could not lay on my side while sleeping. The pressure of laying on the sides 'pulled' on my stitches and that area was still sensitive. Therefore, sleeping was awful. I am over weight and have large busts, which did not help. My PM is on my left side below the collar bone. I would roll on to my side slightly & try to sleep. I flipped/flopped most of that time due to the pressure ~ not so much any pain.

Now, I forget the PM is even there ~ it is just like nuttin' ever happened. Don't know about when the time comes for the replacement when the battery is low, though.

Hang in there,

Back sleeper?

by Pookie - 2011-11-08 11:11:06

If you are a back sleeper have you tried propping some pillows behind you?

Finding a comfy position to sleep seems to be a common complaint for the first several weeks. But before you know it, you'll be back to sleeping whichever way makes you happy - just give it some time:)

As far as the light running goes - I'll leave that up to the members who actually run. In the meantime, walking would be a great exercise.

Take care (and welcome to the club)

Thanks to all who have commented. I just turned 49 and have had my PM one week. I was very active and would just like to ease back into running. I am looking to get back in the gym with a cold winter coming to Ohio. I just don't want to sign up before I am able to do much. Just wanted to say to everyone that this is a great web site and I am so glad I found it.

P.S. When does the swelling go away. Seems like the actual PM protrudes from my chest quite a bit.

running

That depends on so may things that one answer cannot fit alll. Having said that I am 76 and have had a pacer for 4 years now. I run, cycle and serious hiking. with no problems. i know many runners that have pacers and have no problems. Same with cycling. I ride up to 12000 miles per year and longest I ride twice my age in one ride on my birthday. just did 154 miles and while certinally tired I felt great.
Hope it works as well for you
