Theme Park

Hi All,

I am new to this site and not sure how it all works but.... here goes.

I was wondering if anyone could help.... I am only 23 and know very little about the Pace maker I have had fitted because well to be honest I didnt want it... but now its in i have questions and it seems noone can help.

A huge part of my life was having fun with friends and going to theme parks a few times a year however I am not sure if I am aloud on the rides and the theme parks and the internet says very little??

Would this small box really stop rides?? Could the wires really come out??

Thanks
Leanne

rides

Overall you should have no problem with the rides. I know there are some new roller coasters that may have magnets in them that may not be good for you. I don't like roller coasters so I can't help you there.(glad my kids are old enough to go on them without me) (there are other members here that can give you more information about that) There will be warning signhs at many of the rides but that's more for the parks to cover their buts and they can't say they didn't warn you. The pacemaker won't stop rides and the wires shouldn't come out if it's been more than 2 months since you got it. I went to an amusment over the summer and went on may rides with my kids that had warnings (of course my husband was worried all the time.) I was fine. In fact, I was dissapointed because I couldn't go on my favorite ride there, the Turkish Twist. My boys and I were in line, watching it (we were in the next group) and someone threw up on it. So they had to close it down for a bit and we never got back to that area before closing.

I love roller coasters but...

I may never ride one again because of this very fear. I was told that the only way to be certain was to inquire prior to riding in regard to the magnets.

No one mentioned to me about the leads coming out, just the magnets affecting the pacemaker operation. Same as if you hold a large magnet next to your pacemaker.

I can remember going to amusements parks just to ride every roller coaster as quick as possible. It stinks but I would rather be safe than sorry.

I have been told to not ride the rollercoasters that jerk you around the most by my cardiologist and medtronic help line because it can take the leads out of your heart. To be safe, I'd ask your doctor too. You don't want to have another surgery prematurely if rollercoasters run a risk.

Same!

Hi Leanne. I had my pm fitted when I was 17 so was still wanting to be able to go on all the rides. I did and it's absolutely fine. Watch out for the ones that specifically mention about pacemakers. I know there is one at Alton towers called thirteen and they don't have signs anywhere whilst your queueing up until you get right near the ride! I waited two hours for nothing so don't waste your time on that one. I did wait for like two-three years before I went on one so my wires were well and truly stable. If unsure though I would just give your doctor a call, better safe than sorry. Good luck! X

You know you're wired when...

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
