Av node ablation

Hi all, im 43 was a high level athlete had chf, dcm,ef of 25

Just had icd crt implanted. I have an av node ablation scheduled for this thurs..yikes

Beats are irregular and too high, low vo2 max, low ef blah blah

So now will be pacemaker dependant... Sucks for 43 considering how many defib/pacemaker changes il have to do

I plan to golf my brains out affter this is done as we only live once,, they say if u overdo golf yu could wear down the leads which may need to be changed..which is more complicated after ablating av node... Anyone have lead problems after too much sports? Love u all.

Hello, I was reading your message and decided to see what this procedure was (I too have achf and a ef of 20 overall function of 25%) as it may show up in my future. I heard nothing of this and I'm sure there is so much for me to learn as I am new.

I found this link and thought you may want to read it, it is very interesting. They say "don't do it" but you decide.

AV Node Ablation

Nitlin68, sorry to hear you have to go thru all this. I have been totally ablated for almost 5 yrs. and just got my second PM/ICD. I do a lot of sports. Road biking, mountain biking, spin classes, aerobics, rock climbing and some weight lifting. I am a little leary of things like bench presses and shoulder presses etc. I mostly stay light if I do them at all. I have wrecked my bikes several times and do pretty much what I want. So far the leads (and I have the recalled Sprint Fidelis) are o.k. I have read that golfing might be problematic due to the repetitive nature of the swings ?? Probably a ton of folks on here that golf with no issues. My EP figured out I was all worried about the leads in the beginning and he pointed out that the big wear and tear is on the heart end where the leads flex back and forth with every beat - can't avoid that. I think a lot has to do with how the EP places the leads in the first place. They can be routed in different ways. This is why it is important to get someone who really knows their stuff and knows your desires as far as working out etc. Check with your Doctor and see what he says. If it's a bad idea then take up biking :) Having said that I am sure most Doctors don't recommend rock climbing for someone in my position but I feel it is worth the risk for me. Gotta do what you gotta do. Best Wishes.
