Salon Hair Dryers?

I've seen all the notes about what to avoid and not to avoid as far as interference goes, but have never seen any reference to a salon hair dryer.

Generally you sit and have the lid put over/around your head. The mechanism is behind you, just an inch from your back where your pacemaker is, so maybe 2 to 3 inches from the PM. Is this safe? I've seen references to hand held hair dryers that say keep them 6 inches from your PM.

Any cautions on this one?

check your pulse

If the hair dryer is confusing the pace maker (very unlikely the field is nowhere near strong enough) check your pulse. You should know what your lower limit is set to (and your upper) if it is not between the limits then move away from the appliance and check your pulse again. give it a good minute when you check dont just do the 10 or 15 second thing and multiply by 6 or 4, do a full minute.

dont be afraid of the pacemaker warnings you see on pretty much everything. just legal protection for those vendors, the ink is cheap to print those warnings on the label. it takes a lot of energy to confuse the pacer, like hugging a transformer.

Magnets are another problem but they dont confuse the pacer just put it in a fixed rate until the magnet is moved/removed.

99.99999% of the time the weird feeling you are experiencing is your fear of the thing you are holding or next to, it isnt the pacer reacting.

25 years now, three pacers, very close to number four, been in power plants, etc, cell phone in the shirt pocket next to the pacer, etc. never had anything happen that was real, all in my head.

Thanks!

Thanks for your information. I am skinny but it is close to me (anyone) and I am a worry-wort to boot. I think I'll add an extra cushion that will take me up a few inches to be more comfortable about it from a psychological point of view. Thanks again.

Hi M'Liz,
Not sure what the technical answer is but I do it every 6 weeks with no problem :)

...You must be skinny!!!! If there is only 2-3 inches between the motor & your PM when it is behind you.

Based on my experience w electrical power tool s of both AC & battery operations, you have nothing to worry about. I routinely have them right next to y chest while using them & have NEVER had a problem.

I had ONE problem about 2 wks after getting my first PM - but that involved a 240 Volt, 30 Amp cable feeding my water heater. I passed by it so close that my chest wall grazed the cable - I felt that!!! Your comercial hair drier doesn't come anywhere near those voltages & amps.

Hugging a Transformer - Oh, NO!!!!!

I've done that in my front yard. You know, the big green box that drops the voltage from 134K down to 240.

No, I don't have a death wish - it was an accident.

No effect on anything.

What did affect me was passing my PM past the 240V, 30 Amp cable running our water heater. I mean so close the cable brushed my shirt front. THAT confused my Pm & me. I did not remember the cable was there, so it was not anxiety doing it. Took me a few seconds to realize what had happened.

Another myth?
