To all Truck Drivers, I did some research on this topic and read some of the DOT medical regulations. First off, it is DOT that sets the standards not individual states. What I found is you can maintain CDL if you have a Pacemaker only. If you have PM with Defib you CANNOT keep CDL. Also if you have the PM you are required to take DOT Physical annually instead of the normal 3-5 years. Hope this helps and keep in mind this was from last year regulations, so it is possible that something has changed.

According to FMCSARegulation391.41(b)(4)A Pacemaker is non-disqualifying however a implanted Defib is a disqualifying condition.due to chance of syncope. Remember this is the rule from FMCSA and regardless of what you might hear if you have a CDL medical card these are the rules that the exaiminer is governed by and if you do not inform them of these conditions you are liable if anything God forbid should happen. I to have a CDL and that was my first ? after getting PM so I went on FMCSA sight to find out.
Hope this helps.

I had a metronic PM on april 14th. Had been off on a fit for work since november due to fainting instances. My cardiologist says he is positive that my problems have been corrected by the PM. However he still will not let me drive even my own car,let alone a commercial vechicle. I am due to come off my fit for work on june 4th. How do I convince my doctor to let me return to work??
