cholesterol medicines...

My pacemaker is FINE, and no AFib problems !

But I've had muscle pain and weakness, arthritis-like joint pains, fatigue and low energy, "senior moments", etc...

Several times I've quit the statins (Crestor, Zocor, Pravachol, Mevacor, etc.) but went back on them because the symptoms didn't improve. And then things always got worse !

So I've quit the statins again, and am taking CoQ10 in hope of keeping things from deteriorating. My current suspicion is that statin damage is irreversible after awhile (I've been taking them for almost 20 years), but further damage will continue with continued use. Any ideas or experiences on this ???

Statins a problem?

by hturatram - 2009-06-28 05:06:31

I never have heard that statins are dangerous. I take lovastatin, 20 mg a day, for high cholesterol. I have used
other meds but settled on a generic statin because of the lower cost only.
I don't think I have any new symptoms. I still have low energy and tire easily however I am elderly, almost 86, so
I assumed I couldn't expect to be high energy. I have arthritis anyway and high blood pressure. I always had a high HDL reading but borderline LDL. When I developed heart problems I was given cholesterol lowering drugs.
My doctors keep telling me all drugs have side effects.
It just depends on how much the medicines are necessary for us.
I guess I will have to research the statin drugs!

I had problems

by johnb10000 - 2009-06-29 11:06:13

I had some problems with statin drugs.

My doctor prescribed Crestor but that drug costs $150 dollars a month so I stopped taking it.

He them proscribed Simvastatin which is cheaper but that drug made me tired and weak. I looked up that drug on Google and a lot of people were complaining of the side effects. Some healthy people that took Simvastatin and no other drugs also complained about these problems.

Whenever a doctor prescribes a new drug I ask a lot of questions and research it before I take it.
