airport security gates

The written literature I've read says that you should not go through the security arch/arbor when entering the gate area at airports. Instead, you should alert security people that you have a pacemaker.
That leads to a special, time-consuming examination of your person, wand waving, pat-downs, etc.
I phoned Medtronic and was told it's ok to pass through the arch/arbor, but not to pause on linger inside it.
I've passed through now, with no problem.
Any other experiences you have had?

Airport Screening

I travel a lot and Medtronic advises not to passs through the arch because the metal detector is a very strong magnet. Just show your card, request a hand search and be sure not to let them use the wand (which is an even stronger magnet.

I have traveled the world and have had no problems with this procedure even in the remotest areas and smallest airports. Security is used to it because there are so many of us with ICDs and Pacemakers.

I do recommend that you follow the above procedure or you will set off the alarm and then will be hassled for telling them in advance. In this age of terrorism paranoia better to be up front with them.

Medtronic does advise that just passing through the security sensors at stores is okay. I think you got a confused rep at Medtronic or simple miscommunication.

I also pass through

I also just stand 1 feet before security arch and pass arch briskly when signaled. my view is that a fraction of second interferance can cause no problem. I never tell security about pm as i do not feel any need for the same. I do carry card to be prepared to show if somehow i manage to setoff an alarm.

You know you're wired when...

You play MP3 files on your pacer.
