Iliac vein missing at birth

Hi there.

I had my pm changed out on Dec. 19th. When they went to put the temporary pacemaker in, they determined that I was born without my "external iliac vein" in my right leg. Has anyone else heard of this? I've been looking on the internet trying to find the probabilities of this occurrence and to see if any one else mentions this condition, but have not come across anything.

I'm not concerned as I haven't had any problems with it, but I'm really curious and interested about it now.

Thanks for your help.

Missing Vein

When my EP went to put my PM in, she wanted to go through the cephalic vein, but I didn't have one. They ran dye and did an angiogram looking for it but it wasn't there. She went through the subclavean instead. My only concern is that when it comes time for new leads, I am one vein short. I don't really think about it and it doesn't seem to cause problems but I found it interesting too.
