Forklift and conveyor maintenance

Hello,
I have a question about returning to my position at work as a forklift and conveyor service mechanic. I have a Boston Sci/Guidant ICD. I work on 24 and 36V AC and DC motors, and
480V conveyor motors. Does anyone know if it is safe to return to this type of work?

You need to contact the maker of your pacer. they are best one to advice.

Their advice is written by their lawyer, whose job it to keep them out of court!

Whois responsible for your life? You? Some lawyer in a three piece suit in the middle of a big eastern city who only cares about the walet of his employer?

Here's whatyou have to do:

1) find out what your employer's safety/health people say - they have ultimate responsibility for theemployer's wallet.

2) Tell your cardio what you are going to do. Do NOT ASK - TELL. Tell him till he goes ilent. rols his/her eyes & says "Why should I tell you 'No,' you'll do it ayway." Thatis tacit wpproval for you to go back to what you were doing.

3) Your problems are NOT electric fields, but rather MAGNETIC fields. They cam easily shift your PM into the "Test" mode TEMPORARILY. SO - Get approva from your company's health & safety folks to go into the factory & slowly approach the ENERGIZED equipment you would normally work on. See if it affects your PM. If it suddenly shifts your Pm into "Test" mode, you will know it, step back & it will retur to normal.

4) Unless you actually HUG the 24 & 36 Vmotors, I don't think they will affect you. They are usually pretty well made to contain the stray mag fields.

5) Be wary of the 480 V motors & their control panels & wiring & Power control areas. They can have some pretty stiff stray mag fields & very well may affecy you. My sole experience w/ 240V 30A power ckts is that atess then 6 inches, they once upon a time shifted my PM into Test & I darned near fell off an 8' stepladder.

6) If you are realy ucky, a member named Manaman will see your post & chime in. He has first hand experience w/ your exact situation.

The MFG is so fuzzy with answers all you can do is laugh. But it is a very frustrated laugh and hard to deal with when my lively hood is involved. Thank you for the advise on going to the employee saftey people. I am off for 6 weeks but before I return I will do a test run to see how the equipment affects me. Man aganist Machine..I'm determined to win out.

Bil: You caught on really fast.

No one will look out for you better than you will.

Feather merchants in three piece suits are the worst of the lot.

You need to send a private message to "manaman."

He can give you first hand info on his fight against the system. His work pretty much paralleled yours.

You will have to fight like Heck - the system, which is supposed to protect us, turns out to actually work against us when something like a PM is involved. It becomes the "Nanny State " personified.

Factory maintenance Electrician

I am waiting to hear from the company whom took the manufactures recommended max EMF levels and will be testing equipment in our factory that I used to work on. I will let you know what they tell me. They wont allow me to return to work until they determine if they can "Accommodate" me. I normally work in and around scads of 480 vac equipment, variable speed conveyors, electric and propane fork trucks etc. I will keep you posted. I also am trying to get back to work, have been released of all other limitations by my doctor, and just waiting to hear bk from our company's "Industrial Hygentist" .
