slow/fast heart rate

can anyone tell me why my heart rate should fluculate so much? im having my pacemaker reimplanted deeper on 14.8.08 but recently had a holter monitor for a week as i was experiencing episodes of fast heart beat .my gp said the results showed sinus rythmn but the rate went between 60 and 145. the cardiologist will talk more next week but i was wondering why the rate goes so high. im on propanolol twice a day but the side effects are awful but without them i dread to think what the heart rate would go up to. also my blood pressure is creeping up. any thoughts would be gratefully recieved.
