From Kappa 701 DDDR to Adapta L ADDRL1

I had my PM replacement on Monday. The previous one was a Kappa 701 DDDR and I got an Adapta L ADDRL1. It seams they are very similar, but the dr told me that the new device would response faster and anticipates faster my needs.

That it would automatically adjust my heart rate to match my activity and also will reduce unnecessary right ventricle pacing.
He let the same settings I had on the kappa (60 bpm) and till now I feel no big changes, maybe the feeling is that this new one really responds earlier, at least I feel it doing pacing immediately when my HR goes down. Or is it I got influenced by his comments.

What about you, what is your input about it?

Thanks,

Manuela

Thanks for input

This is what I am hoping for on my replacement. I have a Kappa 701 set to DDD mode which means I don't need the Rate Response feature which sets HR based on activity. If the previous pacer was doing a good job there is no reason to change.

In your case with the DDDR mode the pacer tries to give you the best HR for your activity level and they keep improving the program as new devices come out. I would tend to believe what you are feeling.

rate response is the same

Hi!

Well, since the rate response sensor is the same as in the Kappa 701 I would not expect any changes in this regard. Medtronic has no models with a physiologic sensor, they have accelerometer only (except for the old Kappa 400 series). But the algoritm to minimize right ventricular pacing is supposed to be better than in most other models. My pacer has an algoritm that is very similar, and it works great. I'm down to 1-2% left ventricular pacing (I have an epicardial lead placed on the left ventricle instead of the right).

Best wishes

Adapta - Good that I got it!

Dear Frank and Inga: thanks for making me feel that I get and understand a little more about my PM...

I was reading your posts, in particular one of the last October from you Frank (Kappa 700 vs Adapta) and I got a lot of info there.
It's amazing how we can share so much experiences!!!

I have been searching for info on the web also: Medtronic site, Google, heartlibrary.com and so on....and they define Adapta as a pacemaker who makes physiological control of cardiac output during pacing, among other info.
Also that this PM has properly timed atrial contraction and rate variability and have significant hemodynamic
advantages over ventricular pacemakers. This is due to the ability to mimic normal cardiac physiology
(eg see:http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/342/19/1385?ck=nck)

After all this...it sounds like Adapta is a good choise!
I feel it doing pacing but I'm glad that I do:)

My next checkup is on February 4, I'll keep you posted.
Again many thanks,

Regards and best wishes,
Manuela

PS: frank, have you gotten your "replacement"? I hope it is the right one for you, tell me which one you have and how are you feeling

I have my pm one week now. I am eager to read more about it. I have checked the Medtronic website but find little info, or more like little that I understand.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
